The role of the teacher is not simply to transmit information. Students are not simply empty containers which need to be filled up. True learning is a dynamic process that involves back and forth exchanges between teachers and students. It’s interactive. The goal is not simply to deposit knowledge into student’s minds or facts they have memorize. It’s to create unique individual who are problem solvers. Individual who can apply the knowledge they have learned to the world around them. It’s not to create some final product, but rather to help shape them into a person who will contribute meaningful to the society around them.
I believe the greatest teachers are also students. It’s the arrogant man or woman who feels they know enough. Learning is process, one that never ends. The teacher who keeps an open mind can constantly increase his or her teaching skills. The greatest teachers are constantly sharpening their skills.
